Health and Wellness
Health and Wellness careers are excellent ways to give back to your community and can be very personally rewarding. Whether you are considering a field in which you provide direct care to patients and clients, or you are considering a related field, UTTC has an option for you.
*Health Information Technology (HIT) - Are you interested in a challenging and dynamic career in health care but aren't sure you want direct contact with patients? Health/Medical Records professionals are an important part of the health care delivery system and help steer the health care industry. If you like to analyze things, work with computers, see improvement, and are generally excited about change, HIT may be for you! Graduates of the HIT AAS program are eligible to write the national examination for the RHIT credentials.
*Nutrition and Foodservice (NUT) - Graduates of the Nutrition and Foodservice program are prepared to work in WIC programs, diabetes and wellness programs, hospital or elderly care food service, casino kitchens or private restaurants. Students have an opportunity to become National Serv Safe certified and credentialed as Certified Dietary Managers by passing a national exam.
*Online Suicide Prevention Training Course - As well as offering their degree courses online, the IP Department is offering an eight-week training course on suicide prevention based upon the public health model. The course is culturally relevant to American Indians and adapts to specific community health issues. Please contact lcarlson@uttc.edu for further information.
Practical Nursing (PN) - Accredited nationally by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission**, graduates of the PN program are employed in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, home health, mental health, and community settings under the direction of registered nurses and physicians.
