NUR 101  -  Introduction to Nursing

2 Credits

Introduction to Nursing provides beginning nursing concepts that relate to the health-wellness continuum and the health-care delivery system. The learner will explore basic foundations of nursing care delivery: the nursing process, infection control methods, vital signs, and basic nursing skills. Prerequisite for all other nursing courses. (Fall, Spring)


NUR 201  -  Drug Calculations

1 Credits

Drug Calculations provides the nursing student with the mathematical concepts to determine safe medication dosages and intravenous flow rates. The learner will calculate simulated clinical medication and intravenous solution problems. Prerequisites: NUR 203,Nur 206 and MTH 101. (summer)


NUR 203  -  Health Assessment

3 Credits

Health Assessment provides the learner with a systematic method for collecting data using the nursing process. In this course the learner will study skills to complete physical, psychosocial, and spiritual assessments. The learner will apply these skills to collect a comprehensive database, demonstrate a complete physical examination, and create a plan of care. Prerequisite: BIO 220, NUR 101, PSY 111 or instructor approval. (Spring)


NUR 204  -  Basic Concepts of Nursing

5 Credits

Basic Concepts of Nursing introduces the learner to principles and related skills fundamental to nursing practice. Content areas of the course include: activities of daily living, perioperative care, pain management, medication administration, sterile technique, safety and support of oxygenation. This course builds upon the information provided in NUR 101 and NUR 203 as the learner uses the nursing process to care for clients in the clinical setting. Prerequisites: BIO 203, BIO 221, NUR 203, NUR 206 (Summer)


NUR 206  -  Pharmacology for Nurses

2 Credits

Pharmacology for Nurses provides the learner with the basic knowledge and skills required for safe administration of drugs. Theoretical concepts of the nursing process are applied to the administration of drugs. Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the human responses to drugs are studied. Prerequisite: MTH 101, BIO 203, and BIO 221 concurrent. (Spring)


NUR 214  -  Adult Health Nursing

10 Credits

Adult Health Nursing provides the learner with a theoretical base for meeting the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the adult and family. The learner will, in collaboration with the health care team, assist the patient in health promotion, restoration, and maintenance through the use of the nursing process. The clinical component focuses on the practice of nursing utilizing standard of care for the adult client. Prerequisite: NUR 204, NUR 206. (Fall)


NUR 231  -  Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing

2 Credits

Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing focuses on promoting, maintaining, and restoration of mental health, while practicing as a caring, collaborative, and professional nurse. Emphasis is placed on client's physical, psychosocial, cognitive and spiritual needs in the inpatient and community mental health settings. Prerequisites: NUR 204, NUR 206. (Fall)


NUR 245  -  Maternal Child Nursing

8 Credits

Maternal Child Nursing applies knowledge acquired in prior courses and provides the learner with additional theoretical and clinical information needed to meet the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of the childbearing family. The learner will, in collaboration with the health care team in maternal and child clinical settings, assist the family in health promotion, restoration and maintenance through the use of the nursing process. Prerequisite: NUR 214 PSY 251 concurrent. (Spring)


NUR 250  -  NCLEX Review

1 Credits

NCLEX Review provides the student with a variety of opportunities to prepare for the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) licensure exam. The course focuses on a review of the body systems and principles of nursing care using a variety of methods. Test-taking strategies are incorporated in the course. Prerequisite or Concurrent: NUR 245 (Spring)
