Program Learner Outcomes
Graduates of the Health Information Technology program will be able to:
- Appreciate the value of diversity in verbal, written, and nonverbal communication. Appreciate cultural difference and practices among healthcare professionals.
- Demonstrate ability to conduct themselves as a health information management professional as set out by industry standards and ethical guidelines according to the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI).
- Demonstrate ethical, sensitive, and respectful communication techniques with peers, supervisors, and other medical professionals.
- Demonstrate critical analysis within the context of the medical record and professional best practices.
- Develop health records management entry-level competencies to the industry standards.
- Recognize, articulate, and implement health and safety standards and procedures, including the application of ergonomic principles to individual work settings.
- Understand importance of lifelong learning by demonstrating excellent written, verbal, critical thinking, and problem solving skills, which will allow them to effectively make connections between prior knowledge/experience and new learning.
