Program Learner Outcomes

Graduates of the Health Information Technology program will be able to:

  1. Appreciate the value of diversity in verbal, written, and nonverbal communication.  Appreciate cultural difference and practices among healthcare professionals. 
  2. Demonstrate ability to conduct themselves as a health information management professional as set out by industry standards and ethical guidelines according to the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI).
  3. Demonstrate ethical, sensitive, and respectful communication techniques with peers, supervisors, and other medical professionals. 
  4. Demonstrate critical analysis within the context of the medical record and professional best practices.
  5. Develop health records management entry-level competencies to the industry standards. 
  6. Recognize, articulate, and implement health and safety standards and procedures, including the application of ergonomic principles to individual work settings.  
  7. Understand importance of lifelong learning by demonstrating excellent written, verbal, critical thinking, and problem solving skills, which will allow them to effectively make connections between prior knowledge/experience and new learning.
