Position Title:  CRIMINAL JUSTICE INSTRUCTOR
Department:  Criminal Justice
Reports Directly To:  Vice President of Academic, Career & Tech. Ed.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the immediate supervision of the Vice President of Academic, Career & Technical Education teaches assigned Criminal Justice courses, and/or related disciplines. Must be knowledgeable in assigned discipline and/or related fields of study.
  1. Instructs students based upon the curriculum as approved by the Curriculum Committee and the Vice President of Academic, Career & Technical Education.
  2. Explains program and introduces new students to subject areas.
  3. Develops lesson plans and other course materials.
  4. Maintains and reports student attendance daily. Submits attendance report to the registrar office by Friday of each week.
  5. Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
  6. Maintains individual student files.
  7. Prepares daily and weekly assignment cards.
  8. Attends regular department, faculty, and staff meetings as requested.
  9. Requisitions supplies and materials as necessary.
  10. Assures the Vice President of Academic, Career & Technical Education, in writing, that curriculum for academic/vocational programs has been reviewed, evaluated, and up-dated prior to the conclusion of the academic year.
  11. Keeps Vice President of Academic, Career & Technical Education, faculty, and staff informed to insure program continuity, integrity, and in compliance with application standards and guidelines.
  12. Additional responsibilities are: a) being sensitive to the cultures of the students they teach; b) learning about those cultures, and; c) integrating material from those cultures when it is appropriate.
  13. Participate in assessment, professional development, and other activities required by the institution.
  14. Primary advisor for students. This role is to be taken seriously and enter into advisement relationships with students insofar as these relationships do not interfere with other helping and/or therapeutic relationships that students have on campus.
  15. Will participate in other duties outside the classroom by membership in governance committees, participation in student activities, and advising such activities where appropriate.
  16. Will participate in graduation commencement wearing cap and gown.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

General classroom conditions, occasional outdoors to include but not limited too firearms range, streets and driving areas. Normal working hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm with one hour for lunch break. If your schedule should vary, the Dean of Vocational and Academic Services will contact you.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Individual must have a bachelor's degree in an academic/vocational discipline, with an emphasis on Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement and/or related fields/disciplines and 5 years of experience in law enforcement preferably in a supervisory capacity. Must have or be able to obtain a vocational and/or teaching certificate for the state of North Dakota. Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
