Position Title:  Transportation Development Specialist

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Director Tribal Technical Assistance Program, performs all or some of the following duties:
  1. Researching and evaluating existing transportation training materials.
  2. Classroom testing of materials produced for all potential class participants.
  3. Making revisions in response to field-testing of transportation training materials.
  4. Making presentations at conferences, workshops promoting transportation improvements via oral, power point presentations, and video.
  5. Review training materials written by transportation specialists.
  6. Work with computer programs to develop material for on-line availability.
  7. Networking relationship with tribal transportation planners to solicit their ideas in the development of transportation materials.
  8. Working knowledge of the IRR (Indian Reservation Roads) Program and/or transportation/planning.
  9. Develop, implement and evaluate strategies for the Tribal Technical Assistance Program, in coordinating, communicating and cooperating with all agencies involved with the Indian Reservation Roads Program.
  10. All other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

General office conditions. Extensive travel is required that is concentrated in a five state region.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

An associate degree with three to five year's experience working directly in transportation or related fields. In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to applicants with five or more year's tribal transportation planning experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to work with Native American communities, agencies within county, state, regional and national and other transportation entities. Possess good oral and written communication skills. Ability to establish good working relationships with tribal officials, transportation personnel and other agency representatives. Ability to make effective presentations in Native American communities, agencies, and related organizations. Strong background in computer preferably Microsoft Office.

Preference will be given to bona fide American Indian applicants in accordance with UTTC policies and Federal Indian regulations for such preference.
