Position Title: Indigenous Cultural Specialist
Department: Strengthening Lifestyles
Reports Directly To: Strengthening Lifestyles Director

Status: Nine month academic year; Non-exempt
Salary: $9.72/hr
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
- Develops new and innovative culturally related activities.
- Provide outreach to UTTC community of students/families.
- Works collaboratively with Elders, Youth, and various indigenous cultural stakeholders from different Tribes, ie: importance of the preservation of our culture, the diversity of each tribe.
- Plan/Coordinate implementation of language seminars, drum group and singing night, hand game class, double ball tournaments, moccasin games, beading classes, sewing class, quilting class, traditional foods, elders forum.
- Assists with Daily Walking Club and Measure Up to Good Health.
- Create all types of communication materials including e-mail messages, displays, website content, newsletters articles, flyers.
- Completes daily activity reports, assessment tool.
- Keeps a data base of all students that attend your activities.
- Works closely and collaborates with CHC Spiritual Cultural Advisor, TJES, Art Marketing, Tribal Arts, Land Grant, Culture Committee and other Campus Services to Coordinate Activities.
- Checks all recreation equipment daily to maintain cleanliness and insure equipment is clean, safe, and ready to use.
- Supervises and maintains upkeep of areas including sauna/whirlpool/fitness room, weight room, horseshoe pits, big & small gym, ball fields, weight room, and other outside areas.
- Initiates and supervises other Wellness activities as appropriate.
- Assist with Youth Activities.
- Active member of the Wellness Circle.
- Reviews and approves/disapproves work-study timesheets.
- Coordinates facility use for students, community, etc.
- Coordinate use of campus sweatlodge.
- Enforces safety rules and provides training for activities.
- Must work well within a team.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Daily cleaning duties as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position requires weekend availability and transportation of student to off campus activities. Must be able to climb stairs, lift, and stoop. Will work at desk with computer, also walking required to different programs throughout UTTC Campus.
Employee must display professional behavior and commitment to the Strengthening Lifestyles Department and United Tribes Technical College as outlined in the Strengthening Lifestyles Handbook and UTTC Staff Manual.
Employee found violating policies set forth in the Strengthening Lifestyles Handbook, Staff/Student Handbook may be terminated. Strengthening Lifestyles staff is expected to uphold, enforce and live by campus alcohol/drug policies. Staff members have an obligation to hold each other accountable to the expectations established in this document can expect to be disciplined as employees of Strengthening Lifestyles/UTTC with the potential outcome of termination.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The incumbent must have an Associate’s degree in Injury Prevention or related field, and two years related experience. Must possess valid ND Driver’s License. ND CDL if applicant does not possess license, must be willing and able to receive one in 60 days of UTTC employment. UTTC will compensate licensure.
Computer skills working with Microsoft programs. Must have knowledge of child development, parenting skills training/education and community resources.

Preference will be given to bona fide American Indian applicants in accordance with UTTC policies and Federal Indian regulations for such preference.
