Position Title:  Maintenance Custodian
Department:  Student & Campus Services
Reports Directly To: Custodian Supervisor
Opening Date: August 1, 2014

StatusFull-Time/Part-Time; Non-Exempt; 12 Months
Salary: $10.00/hr

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

  1. Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and/or vacuuming.
  2. Gather and empty trash.
  3. Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
  4. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
  5. Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using cleaning products and equipment.
  6. Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
  7. Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
  8. Follow procedures for use of chemicals, cleaners, and power equipment.
  9. Remove snow from sidewalks and entryways using snow shovels or blower.  Spread ice melting chemicals.
  10. Request for supplies and equipment needed for cleaning duties.
  11. Set-up, arranges, and removes decorations, tables, chairs, and ladders to prepare facilities for events; such as meetings.
  12. Spray insecticides and fumigates to prevent insect and rodent infestation.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal work hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.  Position may require working evenings or early morning hours as required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position requires standing for extended periods, stooping, climbing, lifting, bending, and reaching in the performance of duties.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Eight (8th) grade education and three (3) years job experience - or - High school diploma or equivalent and no experience.   
  2. Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the Janitorial Services.
  3. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules.
  4. Knowledge of the proper use of chemicals.
  5. Ability to follow instructions.
  6. Ability to operate and use Janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies; such as buffers, vacuum cleaners, cleaning compounds, solutions, ladders, and scaffolding.
  7. Knowledge of the qualities and uses of various cleaning, sanitizing, stripping, and waxing compounds.
  8. Individual must have current valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record, unless assigned to Building #69.

Preference will be given to bona fide American Indian applicants in accordance with UTTC policies and Federal Indian regulations for such preference.
