SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Student Support Services Director, performs all or some of the following duties:

  1. Responsible for insuring equal access and opportunity for all academic programs and campus activities for students with disabilities at UTTC.
  2. Request to the appropriate agencies the necessary documentation required for students with disabilities so appropriate services can be provided.
  3. Promote the philosophy of equal access and opportunity with all UTTC administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
  4. Serve as a resource for faculty and staff on issues regarding disabilities.
  5. Refer eligible students with disabilities to Academic Student Support Services and/or counselors.
  6. Encourage self-advocacy for students with disabilities to increase their independence and level of self-sufficiency.
  7. Make referrals to outside agencies when appropriate.
  8. Work as a liaison between outside agencies such as vocational rehabilitation and UTTC.
  9. Provide tutoring or instruction for students with disabilities as requested.
  10. Disseminate information to students, faculty, and other interested parties on how to access services through the Disability Support Services Office.
  11. Evaluate student placement test scores in order to ensure proper placement of students.
  12. Help students learn strategies and techniques that will help compensate for learning difficulties.
  13. Develops lesson plans and other course materials.
  14. Maintains and reports student attendance daily.  Submit attendance record to registrar office each Friday.
  15. Evaluates students’ progress daily.
  16. Requisitions supplies and materials as neces­sary.
  17. Assures the Dean of Vocational & Academic Services, in writing, that curriculum for vocation has been reviewed, evaluated, and up-dated prior to the conclusion of the academic year.
  18. Establishes an advisory board and conducts quarterly meeting for program improvement.
  19. Additional responsibilities are:  a) being sensitive to the cultures of the students they teach; b) learning about those cultures, and; c) integrating material from those cultures when it is appropriate.
  20. Participate in assessment, professional development, and other activities required by the institution.
  21. Primary advisor for students.  This role is to be taken seriously and enter into advisement relationships with students insofar as these relationships do not interfere with other helping and/or therapeutic relationships that students have on campus.
  22. Will participate in other duties outside the classroom by membership in governance committees, participation in student activities, and advising such activities where appropriate.
  23. Will participate in graduation commencement wearing cap and gown.
  24. Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

General Classroom conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Individual must have a Bachelors Degree in Special Education, emphasis in math and Elementary Education.  Must meet state certification qualifications.  Knowledge of Native American people, history and culture desirable.

Preference will be given to bona fide American Indian applicants in accordance with UTTC policies and Federal Indian regulations for such preference.
