Position Title: Department Chair, Business Administration Degree Programs

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

This position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Upper Division Degree Programs. The position includes duties associated with the BS program in Business Administration. The Chair for the Business Administration program performs the follow­ing duties:

Administrative Responsibilities:

  1. Plans, organizes, and directs BS Bus Admin programs.
  2. Develops and evaluates Bus Admin faculty and curricula on an on-going basis.
  3. Prepares annual budgets to meet the needs of the BS Bus Admin programs, with an understanding that funding for programs may come from different sources and must be monitored continually for compliance.
  4. Collaborates with AAS faculty and administration to ensure quality continuum of service for students; may include advising students currently enrolled in AAS degree programs.
  5. Develops and executes a strategic plan that aligns with UTTC mission and current professional standards.
  6. Prepares reports, proposals, etc. as required.
  7. Develops policies that insure smooth operation of the program.
  8. Encourages outcome-based education with appropriate assessment mechanisms.
  9. Confers with faculty to discuss problems, plans, and student programs.
  10. Leadership within the faculty for the development, and implementation of the curriculum.
  11. Facilitation of faculty recruitment, development, performance review, promotion, and retention.
  12. Liaison with and maintenance of the relationship with the Advisory Board.
  13. Serves as liaison and maintenance of the relationship with administration and other programs/departments within UTTC.
Teaching & Learning Responsibilities:
    1. Develops agreements with agencies to provide internship experiences for students as necessary.
    2. Writes references for students and graduates as requested.
    3. Advises students as needed.
    4. Works to bring about leadership skills on the part of students through their participation in student association activity, in faculty meetings and upon graduation in their places of employment.
    5. Develop and maintain an environment conducive to teaching and learning
    6. May be required to provide classroom instruction in upper division coursework, not to exceed nine (9) credits.
Professional Development Responsibilities:
    1. Attends workshops and meetings for professional development.
    2. Participates in UTTC and outside professional committee activities.
    3. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

3-4 employees when program is fully developed by 2012.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

General office conditions.  Normal working hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm with one hour for lunch break.  Will need to work additional hours for class preparation, meeting/presentations or travel as the need arises. Approximately 30% time will be spent on tasks regarding collaboration with AAS degree programs and 70% time will be spent on tasks related to the BS degree program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree in Business Administration from an accredited program or successful completion of significant amount of coursework toward a Master’s Degree in a business related field and with an anticipated graduation date established.

Must have administrative and post-secondary teaching experience.

Must attain and maintain a Career and Technical Education Teacher Certification.

Ability to plan, organizes, and evaluates an academic program.

Able to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Experience managing budgets preferred.

Communicate effectively and respectfully through verbal, nonverbal, electronic, and written communication.

Computer proficient.

Accepting of cultural diversity among co-workers and students.

Experience working at a Tribal College preferred.

Preference will be given to bona fide American Indian applicants in accordance with UTTC policies and Federal Indian regulations for such preference.
