United Tribes NewsUTTC Market to Feature Native Art

BISMARCK (UTN) – Works by noted artist Wallace “Butch” Thunder Hawk Jr. and other Native arts will be on sale at the first United Tribes Market on Saturday, March 15 at the college in Bismarck.
The event is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of the Lewis Goodhouse Wellness Center. The public is invited.
Thunder Hawk (Standing Rock Dakota/Lakota) is a long-time instructor in the college’s art program who specializes in northern plains tribal art in a variety of formats, including two and three dimensional work, stained glass and textiles.
More than 20 vendors are pre-registered for the event. Offered will be hand-made items such as beadwork, hand-sewn bags, hand-made scarves and purses, specialty breads and baked goods, stone-ground wheat, ribbon shirts, jewelry, dolls and much more.
Space is available free of charge for additional vendors and activities that promote wellness. Vendor set-up begins at 8:30 a.m.
United Tribes offers the market in partnership with the BisMan Community Food Co-op (http://bismanfoodcoop.com/) and Go! Bismarck-Mandan (http://gobismarckmandan.org/) to promote locally-grown foods and local vendors and artists and artisans.
Proceeds from some of the artwork by former United Tribes students will support the college’s Art/Art Marketing Program.
