30 March 2012
BISMARCK (UTN) - United Tribes Technical College has extended the application deadline for its "Native American Electricians Training Program."
Applications will be accepted until April 13.
The application form is available online at the college website, www.uttc.edu, along with detailed information about the program and its requirements.
When first offered in 2010, the course attracted Native students representing tribes in eight states around the nation and became known as Native electricians "boot camp."
The current program is scheduled for 16 weeks. Eight weeks of pre-apprenticeship instruction, including classroom and hands-on training, is set to begin May 29 and run through July 20, followed by eight weeks of apprenticeship work. The class size is limited.
The training is part of a comprehensive jobs training initiative known as the DeMaND Program, involving four tribal colleges in the region for career training. One of the priorities is to build training and education programs that meet industry standards, partner with industry experts, and address workforce needs.
Working with United Tribes are the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association, along with the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (NJATC).
