BISMARCK (UTN) - The 2006 commencement ceremony for graduates of United Tribes Technical College is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, May 5 at Lone Star Arena on the college campus in Bismarck.
Students will be honored who have earned Associate of Applied Science Degrees and Certificates of Completion in 16 different academic and vocational programs. The graduates are from 21 different tribal nations.
The event concludes the 2005-06 academic year, the college's 37th year serving American Indian students and their families.
The class motto is: "Tradition and Education will Lead us to Success". As a lasting legacy, six trees will be planted on campus in honor of the graduates and to recognize North Dakota Arbor Day, May 5.
Scheduled to present talks are Dr. David M. Gipp, UTTC president; Tex G. Hall, Mandan-Hidatsa-Arikara Nation chairman and chair of the UTTC Board of Directors; and other tribal leaders on the college governing board from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate, Spirit Lake Nation, and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa.
Some graduates completed their course of study at the end of the Fall 2005 term. Scholarships and other honors earned by individuals will be announced during the ceremony. A reception at the UTTC cafeteria will follow. Family, friends and public are invited to attend.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the large gymnasium of the James Henry Community Building.
