BISMARCK (UTN) - The 2012 commencement ceremony for United Tribes Technical College is scheduled for Friday, May 4 at the college in Bismarck. The program begins at 1 p.m. in Lone Star Arena, the powwow dance arbor in the center of campus. In case of inclement weather, the indoor location is the college gymnasium.
More than 100 students from 21 different tribes will be honored with Bachelor of Science and Associate of Applied Science Degrees, and Certificates of Completion, from the college's academic and vocational programs. The ceremony concludes the 2011-12 academic year.
The guest speaker will be Billy Bell, a United Tribes graduate who is chairman of the Ft. McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribe, McDermitt, Nevada.
In addition to family members and friends, attending the event will be tribal leaders on the college's governing board who represent the tribes of North Dakota: Three Affiliated Tribes, Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate, Spirit Lake Tribe, Standing Rock Tribe, and Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa.
Formal graduation photos are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Lewis Goodhouse Wellness Center.
A traditional meal will be served at the college cafeteria following the ceremony. A student and athletic awards banquet is scheduled for the evening prior to commencement.
