United Tribes students on first parents group
28 April 2009

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT: Parents have been involved from the start of Theodore Jamerson Elementary School on the United Tribes campus. Within a year after the school began in 1973, the first parent council was formed, providing training center adult students with an advisory role in the education of their children at the campus grade school. The group was formed under the Title I of the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Parental involvement has continued for 35 years; now TJES has a school board and several program advisory committees. Seen here in this United Tribes News photo from November 1974 are United Tribes students who were members of the first TJES Parent Council. Seated from left: Herbert Wounded Knee, Elsie Wounded Knee, Corinne Felix, Douglas Archambault, Patricia Little Light and Sharon Morrison. Members not pictured were Hazel Archambault, Georgina Walks, Aileen Krueger, Jo and Effie Benson, Dolly Bell, and Carol Traversie.
