UTTC to host Native leaders fellowship banquet
2 May 2011

BISMARCK (UTN) - United Tribes Technical College will host a banquet in support of the David M. Gipp Native American Leaders Fellowship to empower the next generation of Native American Leaders. The banquet will be held May 9 at 6 p.m. at Apple Creek Country Club. The cost per plate is $55 or $400 for a table of eight.

The Fellowships are awarded to United Tribes Technical College students who exhibit significant leadership qualities and who clearly continue to display such qualities. Gipp Fellows should have clear goals about what they want to accomplish in life and should have begun preparing for this work. Their goals must be related to the betterment of an Indian tribe or community.

The fellowships are intended for students planning to return to their communities, either reservation or urban, and are awarded on merit to those most likely to improve the lives of Indian people. Applicants must have excellent grades, some work experience, a track record of leadership, and a strong commitment to their tribal community.

Along with a stipend for educational expenses, fellows receive professional and personal skill development and opportunities to interact with the media, write reports/press releases, fundraise, testify at key policy hearings, and participate in key meetings with top policy officials and leaders. The experience will be an opportunity to develop leadership skills, clarify career commitments, build a leadership network within the campus and extend their contacts to other leaders beyond the college. It is intended to foster a new understanding of personal potential, talent, and leadership strengths along with skills and management tools to more successfully engage in their responsibilities and challenges.

All proceeds from the banquet will help support the fellowship recipients, who will be named during the event. Reservations can be made by calling 701-255-3285 x 1218.
