Fair Housing’s new executive director
3 June 2010

ON THE CASE: Staff members at United Tribes had the pleasure of meeting Kourtney W. Hollingsworth, the new executive director of Fair Housing of the Dakotas. She conducted an information session at the college on April 29. Ms. Hollingsworth came to North Dakota last fall from Mississippi where she was a test coordinator for Mississippi Legal Services. Her undergraduate degree is from Mississippi State University and her Masters of Business Administration is from William Carey University, Gulfport, MS. The Fair Housing board praised her for “a strong fair housing background and commitment to social justice issues.” Fair Housing works to eliminate housing discrimination and to ensure equal housing opportunities for all. The Federal Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to discriminate in the rental, sale or financing of housing due to a person's race, color, religion, national origin, gender, familial status and disability. North Dakota state law also protects age (40 and over) and status with respect to marriage and public assistance. South Dakota state law protects most of the federal protections and also protects due to creed and ancestry. For information on filing a housing discrimination complaint you may contact Kourtney in Bismarck at: executivedirector@fhdakotas.org, 701-221-2530, 1-888-265-0907.
