Tribal colleges reading
24 August 2011

BOOK BENEFACTOR: Gary McCone, president of the National Museum of Language, College Park, Maryland, is the person to thank for adding a significant number of titles to tribal college libraries around the country. Seen here June 14 with UTTC Librarian Charlene Weis, he is responsible for arranging for approximately 2,000 Native American books that came from the Resource Center Library of the National Museum of the American Indian, Washington, DC. McCone is a retired librarian from the National Agriculture Library. He has worked with tribal college libraries for many years, including arranging for surplus books from the Library of Congress. McCone’s visit to United Tribes followed a librarian’s institute at Montana State University, Bozeman, and allowed Weis to thank him for his dedication, friendship and hard work on behalf of tribal colleges.
