United Tribes News1973 Warriors team to lead 'Parade of Champions'

BISMARCK (UTN) - Members of the Fort Yates High School basketball team of 1973 will be grand marshals Saturday, September 7 for the 2013 United Tribes "Parade of Champions."
Forty years ago the 1973 'Warriors' were the reigning champions of class "A" high school basketball. The Warriors became state champions by defeating Minot in a thrilling triple-overtime victory considered to be one of the best games in North Dakota high school playoff basketball history.
The "Parade of Champions" is part of the annual United Tribes International Powwow. The Warriors will lead the moving display of American Indian culture from the State Capitol through the heart of the city beginning at 9:30 a.m. Groups and individuals from area and around the region are invited to participate. Cash awards are offered for winning entries.
Parade staging begins at 8 a.m. in the west parking lot of the State Capitol building. The route is from Boulevard Avenue south on Sixth Street to Avenue C, west one block to Fifth Street, and south on Fifth Street through downtown to Kirkwood Mall.

The 44th Annual United Tribes International Powwow begins September 5 on the campus of United Tribes Technical College. People from all backgrounds are welcomed to attend and share the traditions of one of North Dakota's premier cultural events.
