One evening of the four-day cultural event will be carried live on Saturday, September 7 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. (Central Time).
The telecast will originate from Lone Star Arena on the college campus and can be seen at the college's website www.uttc.edu. It will also be carried on Dakota Media Access, Bismarck-Mandan cable TV Channel 12, from 7—11 p.m.
"This is part of our outreach to those unable to make it to campus," said Julie M. Cain, United Tribes International Powwow Committee Chairperson. "It's our biggest event of the year. It celebrates our culture and kicks-off our school year. We want people everywhere to enjoy it."
The Saturday evening schedule includes a colorful grand entry of hundreds of dancers, followed by drum and dance competition, intertribal dancing, and a performance by the featured cultural group: XPLENDOR AZTECA, presenting the Aztec culture of central Mexico. Also scheduled is the introduction of the new Miss Indian Nations.
Students in multi-media classes in the college's Art/Art Marketing Program will produce the telecast with cameras and microphones positioned to capture the action in the powwow arena.
