Former Spirit Lake chairperson honored
24 October 2011

EXPERIENCED LEADER: Myra Pearson (Spirit Lake) is wrapped in a star quilt by Chairman Charles W. Murphy, Standing Rock, during a meeting of the United Tribes of North Dakota Board of Directors. Pearson was honored August 18 for her service as a former member and chair of the board, whose members are from the five tribal nations in the state. Pearson served the Spirit Lake Tribe for over 14 years as a council person and the tribe’s chair, but chose not to run for re-election when her term as chairperson expired earlier this year. “North Dakota’s tribes have good leadership,” she said. “But I don’t envy the job ahead because the battle is becoming more difficult. Stick together, pay attention to the news (and to your health) and don’t back down. I’ll come and help if you need.”
