Truck traffic on reservation roads described
25 October 2011

FACT FINDING: Anne Ferro, director of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, gets the low-down on the threat to public safety from truck traffic in the oil patch of western North Dakota. Ferro was appraised of the situation at Three Affiliated Tribes, in particular, by Chairman Tex G. Hall, foreground, who described the dramatic increase in truck traffic there and the rise in fatal crashes. FMCSA is responsible for large truck safety through a mix of regulations, enforcement, research, grants and public outreach for the US Department of Transportation. The August 30 session at United Tribes was facilitated by Pete Red Tomahawk, right, a planner with the Standing Rock Tribe. Ferro later toured reservation roads at Standing Rock.
