8 November 2010

BISMARCK - More than 180 North Dakota tribal young people are expected to attend “Tribal Nations Explore College Day,” Tuesday, Nov. 9, in Bismarck.

Bismarck State College hosts students in the morning at the National Energy Center of Excellence. United Tribes Technical College welcomes them in the afternoon at the James Henry Community Center.

Students start the day by learning about the application process, public scholarships and financial aid, student housing and campus life. They then attend sessions to learn more about their tribal scholarships and conclude with a tour of the BSC campus.

Sessions at UTTC begin at 1 p.m. when students will hear from motivational speakers Chase Iron Eyes and Sarah Jumping Eagle. A college fair with representatives from North Dakota University System and tribal colleges runs from 1:45 to 3 p.m. concurrently with tours of UTTC.

Tribal Nations Explore College is funded by the North Dakota College Access Challenge Grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
