BISMARCK, UTN - The United Tribes campus community is saddened by the passing December 7 of Alden Archambault, Jr., 48, McLaughlin, SD.

He is remembered most recently for the watercolor painting of a male fancy dancer's last step and respectful bow that became the image of the 35th Annual United Tribes International Powwow in 2004.

The beautifully illustrated piece titled "Last Beat of the Drum," represented the fleeting moment when the last drumbeat requires dancers to freeze on their last step.

"Last Beat of the Drum" was the fourth piece of Archambault's artwork to be selected for the powwow, the most by any single artist in the event's history.

Archambault's Lakota name is Mahto Hoksila, Bear Boy.
