28 December 2004
UTN - United Tribes Technical College will host an observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. national holiday, on Monday, January 17 beginning at 10 a.m. in the lower level of the Jack Barden Center.
"We plan to emphasize the life of Dr. King," said Julie Cain, event coordinator. "Our students will be involved, as well as people from the community."
The UTTC Culture Committee sponsors the event, which is open to the public.
According to the website of the King Center in Atlanta, GA, the theme for the 19th Anniversary Celebration of the King Holiday in January 2005 is: Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On... Not A Day Off.
The King Center is the primary promoter of the holiday observance. The center says it continues to emphasize Dr. King's service to humanity.
The website, www.thekingcenter.com, also offers news and information about the center and its work, an essay by Coretta Scott King (King's widow), as well as speech excerpts from Dr. King, his official biography, a chronology of his life, and other information about the man and the holiday.
