Institutional Research

The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) collects and analyzes data to provide information for institutional planning, assessment, policy formation, and decision-making. Among OIR's primary responsibilities is ensuring the integrity of the data it provides to UTTC decision-makers, governmental agencies, and other internal and external constituencies.

  1. Provide timely and accurate institutional data to internal and external stakeholders.
    1. Submit all institutional reports and data to federal and state agencies by the required due date.
    2. Provide timely responses to all internal or external requests for institutional data.
    3. Inform the ongoing development of the institutional data warehouse and business data lake.
    4. Assist in the identification and resolution of data quality issues.
  2. Provide administrative support for institutional effectiveness activities.
    1. Administer, score, and provide analyses of internal surveys for evaluation and assessment purposes.
    2. Coordinate the academic program review process with appropriate academic personnel.
    3. Publish an annual institutional assessment report and data fact book.
  3. Coordinate compliance with accreditation standards.
    1. Fulfills the role of Data Coordinator for the annual Higher Learning Commission Institutional Update.
    2. Coordinate and consult on student learning outcomes assessment activities and reporting associated with those activities.
    3. Collaborate with department chairs on the completion of accreditation reporting requirements.

Due to the high volume of ongoing reporting and projects OIR handles, ad hoc data requests are responded to on a case-by-case basis according to timing and workload. All requests must adhere to guidelines set forth by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Program Review Cycle

The Academic Program Review Cycle provides each academic department with the opportunity to participate in a continuous and thorough analysis of a program’s strengths, weaknesses, and plans for improvement. The process is reflective, in that each department will examine prior review information, and determine if the recommended changes resulted in measurable improvements. At the same time, the review process is proactive, as current data will identify areas for change and emerging trends which may require curriculum changes. Finally, the process is cyclical, with regular comprehensive reviews becoming a critical function within the department.
